Another great weekend for the Pioneers with three series sweeps and a tie. A Men’s Soccer tie and Women’s Soccer sweep) clinched regular season titles while a DU women’s volleyball home sweep moved them into first place in the Summit league. And, of course, Denver Hockey swept the much-improved Western Michigan Broncos on Friday and Saturday

Women’s Volleyball Recap

Denver volleyball (18-6, 10-2 Summit League) captured Friday and Saturday night wins against Fort Wayne (3-1) and IUPUI (3-2) with Hamilton Gym wins. Four games remain for Denver in regular season play, two home and two away. Against Fort Wayne, the match went 25-17, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-19. The Pioneers were led by Kayla Principato and Ruth Okoye’s combined 25 kills. Then, on Saturday night they met their top challenger, IUPUI, and won 25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 19-25 and 15-6. DU’s steady libero Cassidy Rooke had 22 digs to support DU’s strong front line in the match-up of the Summit Leagues powers. DU looks to be on track for another 20+ win season and a #1 seed at Hamilton Gym for this year’s Summit League playoffs.

What you may not know…

Denver basketball held a closed scrimmaged against Colorado School of Mines Sunday at Hamilton Gym. The Pioneers finally face live fire against Jacksonville on Friday, November 12th at Magness Arena. Less than two weeks until the season tips off.
