The new company, KOTA Longboards, was founded by Mike Maloney (DU MS Finance, 1997) and Nikki Maloney (DU BA Public Policy, 1992). The DU legacy is strong at KOTA. Nikki’s dad, Cal Sparks, was a professor of art and photography at DU, and Mike’s mom, sister, and brother-in-law all have DU MBAs.
KOTA is an acronym for Knights Of The Air which embodies a code of honor, courage, truth and esprit de corps characterized by the earliest fighter pilots a century ago. KOTA products are proudly handmade in Denver, Colorado. It’s your life – Carve It!
