For the third straight year, the Colorado Avalanche have decided to hold their annual pre-preseason intrasquad scrimmage, the Burgundy/White Game, at Magness Arena. The scrimmage is scheduled for Sunday, September 25 at 3:00 PM.
The game will essentially be a normal, regulation three-period game between Avalanche players. One team will be wearing the traditional home burgundy sweaters while the other will wear the away whites.
DU has hosted this annual scrimmage six other times since the inception of the game in 1998: 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2014, and 2015. The first three scrimmages were played at the World Arena, the home of Colorado College.
With the Pioneers earning a berth in the 2016 Frozen Four for the first time in over a decade, this decision wasn’t difficult for the Avs. Community outreach has always been a priority for the Avalanche and connecting with the best college hockey program in the region yet again was a no-brainer.
Last year’s game attracted nearly 5,000 fans to Magness and this year should at least surpass that number, so if you plan to attend, be sure to grab your tickets early.
To purchase tickets, go to http://www.denverpioneers.com and navigate to the tickets screen. Tickets will be available to Avs Season Ticket Holders starting on Monday, August 15 at 9 AM. Then at 9 AM on Tuesday, the 16th, Avs Partial plan members and DU Season Ticket Holders will be able to purchase tickets.

A little off topic but since this is an article about the Avs, any thoughts from Pioneers fans about Montgomery or Gwozdecky being possible replacements for Patrick Roy? So far, the experiment of hiring NCAA coaches has been successful (Dave Hakstol at Philly and Jeff Blashill at Detroit). After all, Montgomery was a serious candidate for the Calgary Flames job a few months ago. Thoughts?
