The Campus Lounge…Set to Reopen???

When this writer went for a final beer at the Campus Lounge I asked the doorman when they were closing. Clearly uncomfortable with the thought of the end, he said, “When it’s over.”

Fox 31 Denver gave the definitive report on the closing of the Campus Lounge – ‘one of Denver’s most iconic bars‘. Follow this Fox 31 Link for a full write-up of Sunday’s closing and videos.

While details around the new owners are confidential, the proprietors plan to close and remodel. In a surprising twist, owner Jim Wiste says it will still be called The Campus Lounge at the end of this Video Clip.

Of course, our best to DU alum Jim Wiste and his family for a great 40 years.

  1. I moved to Denver in 1976, the year the Campus opened. My first fraternity pledge outing was a trip to the Campus to buy the frat bros beers before a DU hockey game in the old airport hanger arena. After graduation, I bought a house in the Bonnie Brae neighborhood, got a job downtown, and continued to frequent the Campus for many years. Life moved on and took me far away from Denver, but I always stopped in when I was back in town. The frat is gone, the arena is gone, the job is gone, the house is gone, and now the Campus is gone.

    Thanks for the memories…..

    1. Scott- The good news is that it will remain the Campus Lounge with the same horseshoe bar. Maybe a bit more upscale but still recognizable.

      1. But the new owner specializes in vegan (there goes the giant greasy smothered burrito, sniff…) And I bet there will be FERNS in there now!
