As we reported yesterday, Colorado College students were alarmed by plans from wildcatter K. J. ‘Kip’ Snyder to begin fracking on the Colorado Campus in the early Spring.

Despite the inevitability of fossil fuel exploration on the liberal arts campus, many students are determined to fight on. They have blocked Cascadia Avenue, the main artery dissecting the CC campus, with a sit-in.

Students wore T-shirts that said, ‘$60,000 a year for this?’ and ‘ Frack U’.  While most students see fracking as an intrusion, Sally Bishop, a sophomore anarchist from Cherry Hills, Colorado sees fracking as a way to make the world more ‘real’ to her fellow students.

In a massive display of support, students have agreed to not fuel up on even days to show their “economic power” to the big oil. They have also agreed to carpool to Vail on ski weekends to “cut the fossil fuel lifeblood of the major oil companies”.

The owner of Native Roots, the nation’s first gas and grass retailer in Colorado Springs predicts that a spike in marijuana sales will more than making up for lost fuel sales as students stick closer to home.
