Big Shots: Top potential DU prospects – Jase Townsend

With only three scholarships remaining for the 2018-2019, our final LetsGoDU Pioneer “Big Shot” selection is Jase Townsend out of Skyline High School in Dallas Texas. He is a 6’0″ point guard/shooting guard that plays BIG.

Last year he racked up 18.2 points per game on 48% shooting and hit a blazing 50% from downtown. He shoots 76% from the line and pulled down 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game, playing from the outside. His team, Skyline,  finished 34-2 en route to the 6A Texas regional finals.

The Pioneers are always going to need perimeter athletes to play their up-tempo game. Jase Townsend out of Dallas Skyline would be perfect as either the 1 or 2 guard slot to trigger Denver’s high octane running game. He can handle the ball and distribute or create shots off the dribble. He is deadly from the arc, plays bigger than his size and has the necessary speed and length on the defensive end to make critical stops.

Townsend outside skills should open up the inside game, too.

Gotta admit, Jase’s game is great – and his skills look to be an ideal fit with Denver’s style of play.

He’s a player that is getting better and more confident every year. As you can see (below), he had quite a summer on the AAU circuit with the Dallas Mustangs. Some Dallas area fans have labeled him the best pure shooter in the metro area.

He has offers from local schools Northern Colorado and Air Force as well as The Naval Academy, UT-Arlington, Little Rock, Central Michigan, Texas State, and New Orleans. And, of course, Denver.

Why Denver for Townsend? Denver’s up tempo system is a perfect fit for his physical skills. He will be playing for Coach Billups who knows how to teach both the point position or the shooting guard. Behind Billups is a deep and talented coaching staff in Ricardo Patton, Steve Snell and Dan Ficke that have experience developing D-1 perimeter players. Add Denver’s beautiful campus and facilities, academics (#86 US News) and decent proximity to Dallas makes the Pioneers a perfect option.

We will keep you filled in on Jase Townsend’s decision as well as LetsGoDU’s  other ‘Big Shots”, Jordan Guest and Joseph Hedstrom.

  1. DU has done well recruiting Texas (Udofia, Hallam, O’Neal, Griffin, Amigo, Krafka, etc.) in the past, and adding Jase would continue that pipeline.
