The opening stanza in Colorado College’s Alumni hymn says it all, “O Colorado College fair, We sing our praise to you.” And, this year’s squad is as fair as it gets at 7-7.
But a .500 record has delighted their fan base after only winning 6 games two years ago and 8 games last season.
The recent upturn in Colorado College hockey fortunes has bolstered community spirits, too. People in The Springs have adopted the Tiger spirit – and there are signs of a new attitude all over town.

This weekend won’t be easy. I am not a big fan of scheduling CC when the DU students are off for winter break. Any extra bucks DU might make by selling the student section seats to townies at full pop is offset by the loss of student energy in the building, as least in my book.
I would technically agree, but there really hasn’t been any student energy this year. Can’t really have a loss of that when there was hardly any to begin with. Student section has been extremely quiet all year long.
Student attendance (and engagement/noise level) at DU is always a moving target. But you could always count on getting 450-750 DU students in the house for the DU/CC game when DU is in session, and while they may not always bring big numbers and noise for some other opponents, at least with DU vs. CC there is much higher engagement levels than normal.

I want to share an experience we had this season. When DU played North Dakota we sat by the DU bench behind the glass on Friday night. It was dead. Saturday night, we sat directly above the student section. It was crazy loud, the band was loud and they stood and yelled the entire game. First, I know this was North Dakota so there was more energy than other games. Second, they drowned out ND fans in our section – not the case Friday night by the DU bench. We wondered if the arena acoustics combined with the glass in front of most of the student section really muffles/stops their noise. I had four seats for each game (the same people) and we all agreed there was a huge difference, depending on where you sit. (And yes, I know DU won the second game – but it was loud and rowdy from the start.)

When I attended DU, we had 10 days of class and exams after Thanksgiving. My best Thanksgivings ever were spent in Vail and Steamboat.

They have some good people in functional areas like development, promotions, media relations and sponsorships, but they could also use a senior sports marketing person to really be more holistic/strategic in how they plan and execute.

The only other explanation is that they pulled the wrong cart at CBS at a break- but we cant find it. Sounds like a one-off situation.

‘Rumors’ have DU making the selection before January so there is an overlap with Doppes. That being said, it could be taking more time than planned/expected. No decision yet – as far as we know.
Let’s hope the new AD has a likeable, intelligent, marketing professional in mind to take the reigns over there at Buchtel and University and make the appropriate connections for DU to the Denver community

On paper, you are the better team but I can say that CC is a much improved squad this season and we have a top line that can compete with any other’s in the NCHC. You’ll have the added advantage Friday of last change. We gotta minimize our trips to the penalty box as DU’s PP is lethal (2nd best in the country at over 28%). It’s critical that CC play five-on-five hockey for as much of the weekend as possible, rely on Alex LeClerc between the pipes (who’s been stellar for much of the season so far), and basically play nearly flawless hockey. These will be the keys to CC having any success. It should be a spirited series for sure.
