Despite out playing Wisconsin, Denver (12-4-2, 4-4-0) never had the lead until Freshman Slava Demin scored the game winning goal in overtime for a 4-3 win.
Five minutes into the first period, Denver gave up two quick goals in 31 seconds to trail 2-0 at the Kohl Center. But DU crawled back three minutes later with a goal by Tyler Ward at 8:10. The Badgers out-shot the Pioneers 12-7 in the period.
In the second period, DU tied the contest, 2-2. Erich Fear found net with the help of Jaakko Heikkinen and Ryan Barrow. But, five minutes later Wisconsin countered with the go-ahead goal at 10:52. The score remained 3-2 the rest of the period with Denver getting the best of the Badgers. Denver controlled play for the period and out-shot the home team 15-5.
Denver continued to out-shoot the Badgers during the third period. Finally, after several solid opportunities for Denver, Cole Guttman sent a wrister past Wisconsin goaltender Jack Berry to knot the game at 3-3 at 7:54. Liam Finlay and Michael Davies provided assists on the goal.
Denver was swarming the Wisconsin goal in the final minutes but could not get the game winner in regulation. Denver had 39 shots-on-goal to the Badgers 16.
1:42 into the five minute overtime, Demin sailed a shot past Berry for the win. Stapley and Finlay assisted on the game-winner. Denver’s Kohl Center magic moves to 17-4-4. Filip Larsson gets the win in goal. And, make that five wins in a row for Denver.

Said Head Coach David Carle, “We were on our heels for the first ten minutes. Credit to us – we were the better team for two and a half periods. Our bench was positive. We rolled all four lines. The power play gave us momentum (even though DU did not score with the man advantage).”
