Denver Athletics had a terrific week, winning all seven of their matchups.
We told you about Denver hockey’s 8-3 win Friday night and 4-3 Saturday night for a non-conference sweep against the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Homecoming sweep erased some early concerns about last season’s scoring problems for the Pioneers (2-0). However, special teams play all weekend outlined areas for improvement as Denver prepares for Air Force next weekend in a home-and-home series. Next weekend’s home game will feature the induction of George Gwozdecky into DU’s Athletic Hall of Fame Friday night and the inductees will be recognized at intermission at Magness Arena Saturday night.
Men’s soccer did their part Saturday as well, taking down the St. Thomas Tommies at CIBER Field, 3-1. DU sophomore midfielder Ben Smith scored the highlight goal of the match with a 30-yard blast from distance that kissed the upper bar and went into the goal.

Denver men (7-2-1. 3-0-0) start a non-conference set of games this week. They face Virginia in Charlottesville at 4:00 pm MT this afternoon and Stanford travels from Palo Alto to face DU in Denver on Saturday at 4:00 pm MT.
Women’s soccer (8-5, 3-0-0) won a pair of road matches against St. Thomas (2-1) and Western Illinois (2-0) on Friday and Sunday respectively. Denver doubled their competitors on shots (32 to 15) and tripled shots-on-goal (18 to 6), dominating both games. Junior forward Sydney Sharp scored in both matches for the Pioneers. Denver faces Kansas City at home Friday at 4:00 pm MT and ORU travels to Denver for a 1:00 match on Sunday.
Denver volleyball (14-2, 5-1) swept North Dakota State (3-0) and beat North Dakota (3-1) on the road. Lydia Bartalo led the two-match sweep with 19 kills, 2 blocks and 11 aces. This is a huge week for Denver volleyball with a South Dakota State match on Thursday at Hamilton gym at 7:00 pm and Saturday against league rival South Dakota (8-7, 5-1). The winner of Saturday’s match will either move into Summit League’s first or second place, depending on Omaha wins and losses.
DU will be hosting a number of meaningful games on campus this week in all their fall sports.

We arent staffed to cover DU club sports but have done several pieces on DU Rugby in the past. Assuming DU advances through the NSCRO playoffs this season, we would be glad to report if you have a contact for us willing to write-up games.

Haha. Amodio was Ohio State for ungrad, and Yale for grad school. Jeopardy will suck for a while without him. The guy that beat him looked like he felt that he conquered the world. Wonder whether he will flame out in his second game.
Glad to see that DU is doing well. Going to take a walk around campus later today. The campus is so nice these days. How are you guys feeling about attending DU hockey games? Not sure I want to be in a crowd yet. Hopefully attendance is at least respectable this year, and hopefully nobody catches that evil virus at a game.
