Denver Fades in the Second Half, Falls to CSU, 74-65

Denver men’s hoops (1-2) traveled to Ft. Collins to play the Rams Tuesday night. DU played a solid first half, trailing at half by two points 36-34. The Rams took advantage of eight DU turnovers in the final 20 minutes and a 10-0 Ram scoring run to earn the win.

It was a strange day as shortly before the game, DU Athletics announced that prize Polish recruit, Tymo Sternicki (6’9” forward), was departing the program. That announcement, combined with the apparent injury to center 7’0” Abdulai Fanta Kabba, puts added pressure on DU’s front line. Tuesday night, center Isaiah Carr responded with 13 points, 6 rebounds and a block. Pedro Lopez Sanvicente finished solid around the bucket with 7 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Isaiah Addo-Ankrah led DU with four trays and 16 points. The Pioneers will need to lean on this experienced triad going forward.

DU shot a relatively low 39% from the field but was solid from three (8-24) and at the line (9-11). The biggest area for improvement is turnovers with 17 which gave the Pioneers little margin to generate a comeback against the Rams. Next up is Colorado Christian University 7:00 pm MT Thursday at Hamilton Gym when DU will try to even up the ledger.
