RIP. Without Daniel Ritchie DU wouldn’t exist today.
A true D.U hero. He literally saved D.U from extinction. That is not an over blown statement. it is 100 & spot on. I was on campus during the key years that D.U was “on the edge” If Dan didn’t take hold as the new chancellor, we were one to two years from financially going under and becoming some type of State school or just disappearing.
We all owe Dan our huge thanks. His contribution to our beloved D. U. Is immeasurable
Right now I hurt . I will never forget him. I knew him during those years and watched him, item by item, save our school. he is truly my hero

Beautifully stated John.
A hero to DU and to Denver. Hats off to you, sir.
I will always be proud and grateful to have served the University under Dan Ritchie’s leadership. He was a very special man and a great friend to the Enrollment Division. He pursued and secured gifts specifically for international students and agreed to offer merit-based scholarships to international students based on the same criteria used for domestic applicants. A titan, indeed.
An undeniable velvet hammer and DU was the beneficiary of his generosity. If one needs to define leadership and stewardship it’s Chancellor Ritchie
Mr. Ritchie could be seen regularly at the Coors Fitness Center. He was in phenomenal condition and an inspiration to me. He always said hello or even chatted briefly. I was just a community member and had no formal affiliation with the university. Very impressive person.
