Drake Engel and Breezy Hall, both sophomores majoring in Sculpture and Ceramics at Colorado College, won the first-ever Colorado College Gold Pan art challenge. The idea was to create an art project that represents the DU-CC on-ice rivalry.
“It’s been so long since anyone saw the mining utensil trophy here on campus so we had to study old photos”, said Drake. “We wanted to carefully curate a replica of the Gold Pan and ‘reimagine’ the sportsing rivalry using Trompe l’oeil!”
“Getting block credits for the challenging project made it super fun,” said Breezy who also plays the bongos at Cafe Julie’s. “Plus, a $25.00 gift certificate to Mountain Mama Natural Foods was a big win – even if the Tigers are likely lose again.”
DU leads the series 197-124-21 and is 15-4-1 over the last 20 games. The trophy was introduced in the 1993/94 season by former coach Frank Sarrtore. The Tigers need to sweep the weekend series to send the actual trophy back to the Springs.
Asked if they will be attending the game in Colorado Springs, said Drake, “Unfortunately, Saturday is origami night.” The winning entry will be on display at the Ed Robson Arena Entrance Saturday night to motivate Tiger Fans. The series opens Friday in Denver at 7:00 pm MT at Magness Arena. Should the Pioneers win, the Gold Pan will remain in Denver during the trip south on Saturday.

I love that slight tilt to the left rather than level. It gives it that freedom of expression and artistic daring do ; just like the spirit shown by C C when they lose another game to D.U.
