It felt like 2016 again and DU men’s lacrosse (4-3) let the good times roll. Peter Barton Stadium was packed, lacrosse alumni lined the balcony of the Cable Center and Denver played with skill and speed, demolishing Ohio State, 17-12. A team many insiders doubted at the start of the season has now defeated #15 Ohio State, #12 North Carolina and came up just a late goal short on the road against #4 Duke. Denver Hockey Advances to NCHC Semifinals with 7-2 Win Over Miami
The Miami Redhawks (8-24-4, 3-19-3) took an early spring break, giving up 3 goals in the first 3:30 of the game. #1 NCHC seed Denver (30-8-0, 20-5-0) scored seven goals on the night by seven different players en route to a dominant 7-2 win. DU is headed to the NCHC Semifinals at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota to face Colorado College in the NCHC Semifinals. Jack Devine Scores a Haul in 6-2 Win Against Miami
How do you slow down the high-flying, skilled Pioneers (29-8-0, 19-5-0)? The Bloodhawks, er RedHawks, decided to play tough and physical. Clearly, this approach gave Miami (8-23-4, 3-18-3) their best chance to win against a superior team. It wasn’t a dirty style of play by the visitors but a high-octane effort that fell short, 6-2. The Pioneers got excellent play from goaltender Matt Davis and Jack Devine’s four goals, a haul or ‘Texas hat trick’, sealed the first game of the NCHC Quarterfinals for Denver. DU Lacrosse Teams Defeat Michigan & North Carolina
#9 Denver women’s lacrosse has been anything but ‘under the radar’ this season, going 5-0 to start the season, while defeating #21 Michigan Thursday evening, 7-5, at Peter Barton Stadium. The men’s lacrosse team, 3-2, has been largely unheralded despite a close road defeat to Duke, 14-13 in OT, earlier this season. The men’s team traveled to Chapel Hill Saturday and led practically wire-to-wire but needed clutch goals in the final minutes to secure a tight 9-8 win over the #12 Tar Heels.
