Denver National Championship Game Ticket Details

With Denver earning a berth in the Frozen Four championship game tomorrow night (8pm ET), there has been significant interest in how to acquire tickets for the championship game, especially through DU itself. Denver fans who previously purchased tickets for the Frozen Four semifinal through DU will receive an email from Denver Athletics and be charged for their seats in the Denver section for the NCAA Championship game. Most of DU’s ticket allotment was in Section 3 at TD Garden.

If you did not purchase tickets directly from DU Athletics, tickets may also be purchased from the NCAA (via Ticketmaster) here. Or you can go directly to Ticketmaster here. Prices for balcony seats are as low as around $90 per ticket and lower level tickets in the Loge are showing as low as $120 a pop (in section 6).

Denver Gymnastics Out at Regional Final, Thompson Advances

Authored by LetsGoDU Contributor Jill Cattrysse-Larson

Well, Pioneer fans, this weekend wrapped up the gymnastics season for our beloved team, who had a strong finish after battling injuries all season. If anything, I hope LetsGoDU readers have learned more about these outstanding student-athletes and the grueling challenges of a collegiate gymnastics season. This past weekend, Denver competed at the Sweet 16 of gymnastics and finished fourth in the NCAA Auburn Regional meet, behind Florida, Auburn, and Kentucky. Florida ended the meet with the season’s highest score in the entire NCAA with a whopping 198.775. The top two teams from each of four regional meets advance to the NCAA National Championship. Denver improved their National Qualifying Score at the regional competition and ended the season ranked at #13. This DU team is just finding their stride after battling back from injuries and having to substitute-in athletes who would not otherwise have gotten spots in the lineup. I think if this were the halfway point of the season, Denver may have clawed its way into the team final NCAA Gymnastics Championships. But as it stands, only one Pioneer will be advancing to Nationals to compete for Crimson & Gold. Continue reading Denver Gymnastics Out at Regional Final, Thompson Advances

DU’s Hutchinson and Mundell go One-Two at Big 12 Conference Championship

Authored by LetsGoDU Contributor Jill Cattrysse-Larson

Injury-riddled Denver gymnastics delivered one of its finest efforts in program history at the Big 12 Championships Saturday afternoon at Magness Arena. DU garnered an All Around individual title, won two of four event titles and finished second to #1 Oklahoma by less than a point. This was not a meet to pine about what might have been with DU’s raft of season-ending injuries but a dazzling display of Pioneer heart and depth when short-handed DU earned their second-highest score of the season. All this despite only having the minimum number of gymnasts, five, available to compete in two of the four events. It’s March Madness again!

I know many people may be thinking about basketball and, especially at DU, hockey. But to thousands of gymnastics fans, this is our March Madness, too. Almost exactly a year ago, DU won their first Big 12 Championship Title. It was an upset of the, then #1, Oklahoma Sooners and a huge accomplishment for the Pioneer’s gymnastics program. This year the Big 12 Conference Championship is being held in Magness Arena for the first time. But if you didn’t get tickets (they are still available, guys), it is also being broadcast on ESPNU at 5:00 pm MT. Continue reading Preview: Big 12 Gymnastics Championships at Magness Arena

Short-Handed DU Qualifies for NCAA Regionals in Final Meet Before Big 12 Tournament

Authored by LetsGoDU Contributor Jill Cattrysse-Larson

The Pioneers gymnastics team closed out their regular season at home with a quad meet versus #12 Oregon State, #18 Arkansas, and Nebraska. Thanks to a hockey sweep over Miami, gymnastics was in Magness. Had the hockey teams split games on Friday and Saturday, gymnastics on Sunday would have been in Hamilton. But the bad news about the scheduling was that gymnastics tickets didn’t go on sale until late Saturday night. What should have been an easy sellout of Magness (we had four Olympians in the house after all), ended up being maybe half full. Yale Leverages Early Lead to Defeat DU

Yale (3-1) jumped out to a 4-1 lead at Peter Barton Stadium and put the Pioneers (3-4) in an early deficit. Denver fought back but could never forge a tie or lead the remainder of the game and fell, 16-13, to the Bulldogs. Yale was led by preseason All-American Matt Brandau who scored 5 goals and 3 assists on the day. While the teams had a similar number of shots-on-goal, Yale took advantage of close-in snipes for 64% efficiency while DU could only score on 46% of their shots on frame. Injuries Plague DU Gymnastics Team

And then there were none. With the loss of graduate student Emily Glynn at Penn State on Saturday, all three fifth-year gymnasts on the DU roster are out. Glynn suffered a lower leg injury, possibly an  Achilles injury, on floor exercise (DU rarely provides public details of student-athlete injuries), as she was carried off after failing to complete her first tumbling pass. Glynn was injured just like her teammates, Lynnzee Brown and Mia Sundstrom. Continue reading Injuries Plague DU Gymnastics Team

13-1 Scoring Run Propels DU Past Canisius

Denver was leading by a narrow 7-6 margin at halftime Sunday afternoon at Peter Barton Stadium but used an explosive second half to blow by the Canisius Golden Griffins. The Pioneers scored eight consecutive goals in the third quarter before the Golden Griffins Jacob Buck stopped the bleeding. Denver went on to score five more consecutive goals to start the fourth period to hit the 20 goal mark before emptying their bench. Final score 20-9. Denver Storms back from two-goal deficit to Defeat Omaha

Denver hockey (23-8-1, 16-6-0) trailed Omaha, 2-0, in the second period when Brett Stapley finally scored for the Pioneers at 17:10. Trailing by a goal heading into the final twenty minutes, DU would need freshman goaltender Matt Davis to hold Omaha down until the Pioneers found their scoring touch. DU responded with three powerplay goals in the final period to run away with the game. Continue reading Denver Storms back from two-goal deficit to Defeat Omaha
