Sneaky new DU Campus Safety Policy effectively bans Boone mascot costume from DU campus

While DU students were enjoying their well-earned holiday break, certain DU senior administrators were working in the shadows of the empty campus to hatch a devious new ruling, which they have since implemented, hoping you wouldn’t notice….

Yes, the rumors are true. The Denver Boone costumed mascot is now effectively banned from campus, under the guise of a new “Mask Policy” effective January 1, 2018 (from DU Campus Safety Policies Web Site): Continue reading Sneaky new DU Campus Safety Policy effectively bans Boone mascot costume from DU campus

Defining identity at the University of Denver

Homecoming weekend is soon to arrive on the University of Denver campus. It’s a wonderful time to see DU friends, walk the campus in its fall glory, cheer on the top-ranked DU hockey team and celebrate the bonds we all share as fellow Pioneers. From the newest first-year students who have been a part of our community for only a few weeks, to the oldest alumnus or DU fan, we’re all part of a pretty big family. How big? Well, there are about 11,600 students, 1,300 faculty and 1,700 staff on campus, but the DU community is much, much larger when you include the 100,000+ living DU alumni around the world, the parents and families of our students, and the many others who choose to support our school, including DU’s neighbors, its sports fans, its donors and event attendees. The Founder, Damien Goddard launches Chicago social schedule for Frozen Four

Photo: Sheraton Grand ChiBar

Below is the schedule of social events orchestrated by LetsGoDU founder Damien Goddard for the Frozen Four weekend. Obviously, all the Chicago events are optional (except the game(s) of course). But, you do not want to miss Thursday afternoon at Howells & Hood (1-5pm) and the official University of Denver reception and watch (6:30-8:30pm) at Park Tavern.

If you can make it to any of these events, we’ll see you there. Of course, food and drinks for unofficial events are the responsibility of each attendee.

Pemberton’s career high 25 points lead Denver past South Dakota State

Special to LetsGoDU by: Chris Shockey

In what was supposed to be a battle between the Summit League’s two best big men, only South Dakota State’s Mike Daum brought his A game. Fortunately for Denver, Jake Pemberton more than made up for Daniel Amigo’s below average night. Continue reading Pemberton’s career high 25 points lead Denver past South Dakota State

DU-UND 1994: The Last of the Great College Hockey Brawls

BY ANDY CLAYTON

“Win or lose, at least we don’t live in Grand Forks.”

That sign – held up by a Denver fan at the 2005 Frozen Four in Columbus, Ohio – perfectly sums up the DU-North Dakota rivalry for me.

The two storied programs may respect each other, but when they battle on the ice it’s college hockey at its very best. Passions run high. The games are intense. It’s great theater. But in the end, Denver always has the edge … “at least we don’t live in Grand Forks.” Continue reading DU-UND 1994: The Last of the Great College Hockey Brawls

Puck Swami: Where are the Pio Fans?

The University of Denver hockey team has lost only once in its last ten games, charging into third place in the NCHC and back into the NCAA tournament picture. In short, we all watch a good team that is playing well, and most worthy of our fan support. In fact, DU has had more consecutive 20-win seasons than any team in the country (14), with eight straight NCAA appearances. The product on the ice is terrific. Top-Tier Locker Room Needed for Premier Hockey Program

While DU fans are rightfully proud of Magness Arena, the reality is that some of DU’s facilities haven fallen behind peers. Many of the locker rooms at Ritchie Center were redone with insurance monies as a result of flooding over the summer. Others, such as men’s lacrosse, were expanded to accommodate the basic needs of a growing program that weren’t being met with the older facilities.
