For the first time since losing to Ohio State last year, a span of 20 games, the No. 1 University of Denver Pioneers lost a lacrosse game. This time, the Pioneers were dispatched at the hands of the unranked, upstart Penn State Nittany Lions by a score of 15-10 at the Patriot Cup in Dallas, Texas. With the No. 7 University of Denver’s NCAA Tournament first-round game with No. 12 Boston University later today, we thought that doing a Q&A with a BU blogger would be a great way to gain insight into BU’s program and how they might match up with DU.

Thanks to the willingness of Matt Pereira with BayState (Road) Sports to do this feature, we were able to get some key questions answered. They did the same with us and here is their Q&A with me. Here’s the conversation: Continue reading Denver-BU Q&A Preview with BayState (Road) Sports

DU Hockey Mailbag: The Real March Madness

Ain’t playoff hockey great? We’ve had two weeks of it already and there is more coming this weekend in Albany, NY; Worcester, MA; Cincinnati, OH; and St. Paul, MN. Of course, the regional the matters most to us here at LetsGoDU is the West region in St. Paul where the No. 7 University of Denver Pioneers will face the No. 12 Boston University Terriers on Saturday. The winner of that game will play the winner of the St. Cloud vs Ferris State matchup. Continue reading DU Hockey Mailbag: The Real March Madness

Denver and North Dakota Tie in Meaningless Consolation Game

In an altogether meaningless NCHC third-place game for NCAA Tournament purposes, the No. 6 University of Denver Pioneers and the No. 1 University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks skated to a 1-1 tie at the Target Center. Thanks to the tie, Denver will likely stay at #6 in the PairWise Rankings while North Dakota will finish no worse than #3. Mike Eaves Out at Wisconsin, Door Open for Gwozdecky?

Yesterday, University of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez announced that long-time hockey head coach, Mike Eaves, would be relieved of his duties. Though he led Wisconsin to the the 2006 National Championship and consistently kept the Badgers near the top of the college hockey world, his last few years behind the UW bench were less than stellar. Missed Chances Doom Pioneers in Frozen Faceoff Loss

After all the talk was about how good the No. 6 University of Denver Pioneers had been in 2016, DU came onto the ice against the No. 4 St. Cloud State Huskies with little purpose and seemed to try too hard to make the perfect play. The Huskies capitalized and left the Target Center with an important 4-2 victory over the Pioneers. Continue reading Missed Chances Doom Pioneers in Frozen Faceoff Loss

Frozen Faceoff Team Profile: North Dakota Fighting Hawks

Ah North Dakota. The Fighting Hawks. The ultimate villain of college hockey. The talented, sometimes unbeatable villain of a sport with a fanbase that is easy to hate. But dammit all if they aren’t the best team in the country. Continue reading Frozen Faceoff Team Profile: North Dakota Fighting Hawks
