Photo: From the top of the podium, Gymnast Nina McGee captures the moment.
Gymnast Nina McGee achieved a DU first when she became an NCAA champion on floor. While competing in the NCAA Championship all-around, she captured the top score on her bread and butter floor exercise and captured Denver’s first ever gymnastics title. That put her athletic career in jeopardy. After consultation with medical experts and coaches, the decision was made to insert metal rods to support the tibia in both legs from the knees to the ankles.
