Pioneers earn first conference road sweep over Miami

In American Hero fashion, Troy Terry scored the game-winning goal and his second of the night beating Ryan Larkin five-hole to contribute to the [2/2] University of Denver Pioneers 5-2 victory and weekend sweep over the [NR/NR] Miami-Ohio [Miami] RedHawks. Earning their road, first in-conference sweep after last night’s 5-2 win at Steve Cady Arena, this momentum is vital with the conference playing closing and the NCHC Playoffs and the NCAA Tournament approaching. Weekend thrashing creates hot springs

Denver’s destruction of Colorado College this weekend was total and complete. The Pioneers skated on the large sheet in Colorado Springs Saturday night and got to every puck, extending their winning streak to 12 games, in yet anther trouncing of the Tigers. The Broadmoor World Arena was as quiet as a church on Sunday morning and the Pioneers delivered a workman-like result against a dispirited squad.

The one place to look to more fully understand the Tiger’s misery is Facebook. Continue reading Weekend thrashing creates hot springs

WATCH: Jim Montgomery talks 12th straight win over CC, first place in the NCHC

Last night, the #2 University of Denver Pioneers went into the World Arena and skated the Colorado College Tigers out of the building with a 5-1 victory. It was Denver’s 12th straight victory over their in-state rival and the victory vaulted them over UMD and into first place in the NCHC. On top of it all, the win was Denver’s 20th of the year, which made it 16 straight seasons with at least 20 wins (the Tenzer Streak). WATCH: Bill Tierney, Connor Cannizzaro, & Ethan Walker talk season-opening win over Air Force

Yesterday, the University of Denver Men’s Lacrosse team topped the Air Force Falcons 14-6 thanks in large part to a three-goal outburst in the final 17 seconds of the third quarter. DU head coach Bill Tierney was rather pleased with his team’s effort.

Senior attack Connor Cannizzaro and freshman attack Ethan Walker both joined Tierney in the postgame press conference to talk about their growth together and what they saw out of Air Force. Walker is one of the most humble star players you’ll ever see and Cannizzaro is…well he’s Cannizzaro and you can’t beat being Cannizzaro.

Watch what Tierney, Cannizzaro, and Walker had to say below:

The only thing that didn’t happen for Denver is earning the #1 ranking in the Pairwise. They remain at #2. WATCH: Jim Montgomery talks sluggish 11th straight victory over Colorado College

Last night, the #2 University of Denver Pioneers topped Colorado College for the 11th straight time to extend their third-longest streak in the 305-game history of the Gold Pan Rivalry. The 2-1 victory was an important one, as all wins over CC are, but the Pios played sluggish hockey for much of the game. Part of that was a function of the bye week last weekend. DENVER – Troy Terry returned, Adam Plant scored a goal barely a minute into the game, and the #2 University of Denver Pioneers won their 11th straight game against in-state “rival” Colorado College Tigers by a score of 2-1.
