Denver Hockey Teases Battle On Blake Sweaters

On Sunday, the University of Denver Hockey Program released a short video showing the creation of the jerseys the Pioneers will wear on Saturday for the Battle on Blake. While the lighting and quality of the video aren’t great, you can see that the program has decided to go with a modified throwback look for the first organized outdoor hockey game in Colorado history.

Puck Swami, noted DU athletics supporter and “historian” aptly noticed that the Battle on Blake sweaters took elements from DU’s first hockey sweaters in 1949 with the six stripes on the arms while including the iconic “Denver” arch, which has been part of DU hockey since 1951. As normal, the interlocking “DU” will be included on the shoulders.

As more pictures of DU’s sweaters become available, we will be sharing them here. When CC releases their version, we will also be sure to report that (you know, assuming they actually do something for it).

Denver’s Battle on Blake sweaters should be available for purchase both at the game and after the game at shoppioneers.com.

Denver plays Colorado College in the 2nd home-and-home of the 2015-16 edition of the Gold Pan Rivalry this week. Instead of the normal Friday, Saturday matchups, the schedule was altered earlier this year to allow both teams to practice at Coors Field on Friday. The game at the World Arena in Colorado Springs will be on Thursday at 7:37 PM. The Battle on Blake will take place at 6:10 PM at Coors Field.

Be sure to check LetsGoDU throughout the week for all the Gold Pan Rivalry and Battle on Blake coverage you could ask for. For more coverage, click on the “Battle on Blake” menu under the Men’s Sports and Hockey drop-down lists at the top of the screen.
