Men’s Hockey Sweeps Spartans
Denver hockey rolled into East Lansing Michigan and exited with a sweep. On Friday, Denver defeated the Spartans 2-1 behind Tanner Jaillet’s 19 of 20 saves along with goals from super freshman Henrik Borgstrom and sophomore Jarid Lukosevicius. On Saturday afternoon, Troy Terry scored one goal and another nearly invisible goal to lead the Pio’s to a 3-1 victory. The Pioneers have moved to 4-2 behind a four-game winning streak with one of their top scorers, Dylan Gambrell, out of the lineup with injury. Next series: At Magness Arena next weekend vs. Western Michigan.

Women’s Volleyball Sweeps on the Road, too
DU women’s volleyball went on the road and shut out two Summit League foes. On Friday, Denver swept South Dakota State University in Brookings 3-0 (25-17, 25-18 and 25-21) led by libero Cassidy Rooke and a host of other Pioneers. Then, on Sunday the Pioneers traveled to Macomb, Illinois to take on the Western Illinois Leathernecks. Again, another sweep 25-12, 25-23 and 25-12 on the road behind 10 kills from Kayla Principato. Denver moves to 16-6 and is on pace to another impressive 20+ win season with six games remaining – four at home in the Summit league. Next Match: Friday, October 28th at Hamilton Gym vs. Ft. Men’s Soccer Sets Up Summit Showdown
Coming off a stunning win in the final seconds earlier in the week against New Mexico, DU men’s soccer returned to the pitch to defeat Oral Roberts 2-0. The Pioneers dominated ORU by out-shooting them 18 to 4. Blake Elder and Andre Shinyashiki did the scoring damage for the Pioneers. Denver moved to 14-0-2, 5-0-0 Summit League. This sets up a showdown in Omaha next Saturday when undefeated Denver plays league undefeated Omaha (1:00 PM MT) for the Summit League regular season title.

DU Women’s Soccer Falls
DU Women’s Soccer was coming off a tough shorthanded loss to Oral Roberts traveled to South Dakota State and dropped a 2-0 decision to the Jackrabbits. This loss drops their record to 6-9-1, 3-2-1 in the Summit League. This marks two consecutive losses as they begin to play the top half of the league. Scoring continues to be an issue in tight games for the Pioneers. As we have noted all season, the Pioneers need to add some creative scorers to their roster next season after two consecutive years of scoring struggles. Next match: At CIBER Field vs. Ft. Wayne Friday, October 28th at 6:00 MT.
