Denver Teams Sweep Summit League Openers

DU men’s & women’s soccer won their opening conference games and volleyball swept a pair of matches. The men claimed victory in St Paul, Minnesota while the women opened their season at Pioneer Field and Hamilton Gym.

Denver men’s soccer (5-1-3, 1-0) played St Thomas. The Pioneers outshot the Tommies 7-1 in the first half but left the pitch scoreless. It took more than another 15 minutes before Sam Bassett solved STU. The game remained tight as the Tommies pushed forward in the final 45 until Bassett struck again in the final minute, 2-0. Tonight, DU plays at Pitt 5:00 pm MT (ACC Network).

Denver women’s soccer (5-1-4, 1-0) opened against Oral Roberts at home. Fifteen minutes into the tilt, Riley Baker got Denver on the board with the game-winner as the match ended 1-0. In the hard-fought win, DU had 4 shots on goal to the Golden Eagles 1 for the night. Next up is a Thursday afternoon match at St Paul, Minnesota against the Tommies.

Denver volleyball (3-7, 2-0) collected a pair of sweeps against North Dakota foes. On Thursday, Denver swept North Dakota 3-0. Mackenzie Fedelak, Cadi Boyer and Cassie Davis all collected 9 kills and Briley Decker earned 32 assists. Saturday, the North Dakota State Bison were swept in three tight games, all separated by two points. Ava Reynolds had double-digit kills, Briley Decker 35 assists and Gianna Bartalo with 9 digs in the match sweep. After a slow start to the season, Denver has won 3 out of their last 4 matches. DU will be tested on the road later this week with a two-match trip to South Dakota.
