DU Hits Century Mark in Win Over Colorado Christian, 100-68

After a sluggish start in the first fifteen minutes, the duo of Touko Tainamo (31 points) and Tommy Bruner (27 points) led Denver (3-3) past an out-manned Colorado Christian team from the RMAC (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) at Hamilton Gym. Denver was deadly from downtown going 9-21 and shot 54% from the field in the win.

The two teams traded leads for the first 15 minutes as DU could not find a rhythm and only held a one-point lead. But the Pioneers struck quickly with four consecutive three-point shots from beyond the arc. Isaiah Addo-Ankrah started the DU run and Touko Tainamo canned three straight trays to build a 35-27 Denver advantage. That was all the Pioneers needed to hold a 43-31 lead at break.

Denver built on their lead in the second half with the hot shooting of Touko Tainamo and Tommy Bruner. The duo pushed the lead to 19 points with ten minutes remaining, 67-48. With two minutes remaining, it was Dan Makuna show that pushed Denver to the century mark. Makuna hit a dunk, a jumper and then, with 34 seconds remaining, buried a jumper to hit the century mark. Freshman DeAndre Craig had an excellent floor game with 5 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Jaxson Brenchly had a solid all-around game, too, with 6 points, 3 assists and 7 rebounds.

Denver needed a confidence builder after going 1-2 at the Jaguar Classic this past week. This was exactly what the doctor ordered as Coach Wulbrun emptied the bench and sent the team into the Thanksgiving holiday on a positive note. Next up is a road trip to Texas A&M Commerce at 12 pm MT on Sunday, November 26th.
