Milton Lopez got SMU in the board at 8:25 of the match. The Ponies doubled up their lead when Bailey Sparks buried a penalty shot goal against the Pioneers. Denver got life when a Sam Bassett free kick caromed off Mustang keeper Chance Johnson and Oje Ofunrein who buried his shot past Johnson at 29:17.

In the second half, Denver gained the edge in play, searching for the equalizer. Finally, Sam Bassett delivered the ball to a cutting Junior Dylan Akau at 70:12 and he pushed the ball into the cage, 2-2. Despite a solid push the final 20 minutes, neither team could break the draw.

DU owned the statistical advantage. Denver outshot the Mustangs 8-4 and earned eight corner kicks to four for the home team. It was a physical match with the Pioneers leading with 16 fouls and each side with two yellow cards.
Denver ventures to Omaha next Friday to take on Creighton at 6:45 pm MT.
