All of Denver teams finished strong this week. We told you about DU hockey’s (5-2-1, 2-0-0) Halloween sweep of the Omaha Mavericks, despite going 1-10 on the power play on the weekend. Goaltender Johnny Hicks extended his unbeaten streak to 19-0-1. There were positives for both soccer teams and DU volleyball as well.
Men’s soccer (4-7-4, 3-1-3) tied Santa Clara 1-1 on the road Saturday night. Late in the first half, Tyler Schommer fed Luke Shultz for the first-half lead, 1-1. Santa Clara countered early in the second half, 1-1, and the defensive tilt ended in a draw. Denver had 1 shot on goal to 4 for the Broncos. The draw ensured Denver a place among the top four conference teams and a guaranteed slot in the WCC conference playoffs. DU wraps up the conference regular season play against Seattle on Friday at 6:00 pm MT at Pioneer Field.

Denver women’s soccer (12-11, 5-6) returned to Pioneer Field for Senior Day. Denver raced out to an early lead and coasted to a 5-1 win over Pacific. Denver built a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes. Seniors scored all the Pioneer goals. Denver will close out the 2026 season next Saturday when the Pioneers travel to Seattle. DU can finish .500 in conference play with a win. Overall, the season has fallen below expectations for DU women’s soccer this season.
Thursday, DU volleyball (12-11, 5-6) dropped a Thursday 3-1 decision to Santa Clara at Hamilton Gym. The match featured three tight games with Santa Clara outside hitters the difference. So far, DU can hold their own with skill and depth in the WCC but need more size on the edges to consistently win in-conference. Alicia Thibodeau and Jamia Johnson combined for 32 kills in the match. Denver rebounded on Saturday, 3-0, against San Francisco at Hamilton Gym. Denver played a balanced defense and Alicia Thibodeau delivered 13 kills and 6 service aces. Saturday, November 7th, the San Diego Toreros come to Hamilton Gym.
Basketball starts this week with both teams taking to the court Monday. DU women’s hoops, under new/old coach Erik Johnson, go down I-25 to face Air Force at 6:00 pm MT. Women’s hoops have a quick turnaround and play Lindenwood on Wednesday at 6:00 pm MT. Denver men are in Madison, Wisconsin, with an opening tipoff at 5:30 pm MT against the Badgers.
