Denver Volleyball Opens Home Slate in Revamped Hamilton Gym, Defeats SIUE 3-1

Denver women’s volleyball (3-1) lost the first game of their Hamilton Gym opener to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) but swept the next three games for the match win (20-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-22). Fan’s eyes were focused on the court and around the venue as they took in the new scoreboard, improved lighting and premium setback chairs for the first time. The shiny court featured DU’s new West Coast Conference (WCC) affiliation logos as well.

On the court, DU’s Jamia Johnson dominated at the net with 16 kills and 18 points. Quinlan Jones added 14.5 points  along with 13 kills as the duo owned the net front after the first game. Denver collected 17 more kills than the Cougars. DU libero Madison Winkler held down the back line with 19 digs to pace the Pioneers. Denver held SIUE to a .131 shooting percentage on the night versus .265 for the home team. 

The Denver Invitational continues tomorrow against Marist at 3:00 pm MT at Hamilton Gym.
