It took a few weeks, but DU men’s and women’s soccer finally earned home wins, their first of the season. Denver volleyball went 3-0 during the last week.

We told you about Denver men’s soccer (1-4-1) 3-0 win over Tulsa Friday night. On Monday, Labor Day, Denver fell to Indiana 3-1. Denver gave up a whopping 27 shots, 15 shots on goal as Indiana coasted. Denver could only muster four shots on frame. The team continues its grueling road tests Friday in Morgantown against West Virginia.

Women’s soccer (1-3-2) defeated Montana, 2-0, on Sunday. Goals by Nora Zalazny in the first half and Keira Nguyen in the second spelled the difference as DU dominated the visitors. Denver held the Griz to zero shots on goal. Friday night. The team travels to Boulder to face the Buffs while seeking their first road win of the season.

DU volleyball (5-1) had a successful Denver Invitational tournament, with wins against SIUE, Idaho and Marist at revamped Hamilton Gym. We told you about the SIUE match, and then, DU followed with a pair of 3-1 wins. Against Idaho, Jamia Johnson and Quinlan Jones continued to dominate at the net. Lily Van Hal and Eren Ilayda provided key assists. Against Marist, Madison Winkler collected 29 digs, and Alicia Thibodeau chipped in with 13 kills and 6 digs. (Winkler was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week). Next up is a three-game tournament in Stephenville, Texas, starting this Thursday against Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

In other news, Denver Triathlon opened their season this past week. Former national champion Maira Carreau led the Denver Pioneers with a third-place finish Saturday at the season-opening Southern Hills Triathlon. DU finished fourth overall. Next up is The Deserts Edge Triathlon at Lima, Colorado, on Sunday, September 27th.
