Fresh off claiming their sixth-straight regular season title, the #47 University of Denver women’s tennis team (15-5, 5-0) heads to Tulsa, OK for the Summit League tournament. And you guessed it, the Pioneers will be seeking their sixth-straight tourney title.

“I think the change for us will be going down to sea level, playing at [tournament host] Oral Roberts,” said head coach Christian Bass. “It will be a little bit slower conditions, which will be nice, I think it will be great for us to play there.”

Friday the top-seeded Crimson and Gold square off against #4 South Dakota, a team they dispatched 7-0 just last Friday at Denver Tennis Park. #2 North Dakota and #3 Nebraska-Omaha are the other two tourney qualifiers.

Bass wants her players to take nothing for granted heading into the postseason.

“We’re going to work hard this week on moving forward, being inside the blue, taking time away knowing that we’re going to be in slow conditions,” she explained.

More honors for “Beast”

As per usual the team will be looking to their seniors for leadership, including #109 Bianca Mok, the top-ranked player in the conference.

The accolades for “Beast” keep on coming. The senior with the big smile from Idaho took Summit player of the week this week, her fourth time getting the honor this season. DU’s Matt Summers claimed the men’s prize.

After the dust settles on the Summit League, the Pios will find out their NCAA destiny on Monday. The top 16teams in the ITA rankings get to host first and second round matchup in the 64-team tournament. Stanford is the defending champion.
