The Pioneers are back in action this weekend when they play their final series with rival Colorado College
After a week off from games, the Denver Pioneers are back on the ice this weekend when they play another home-and-home series with the Colorado College Tigers. Since the Pios last played a couple things have happened. Troy Terry left to play for Team USA in the Winter Olympics and his teammates have been cheering him on from Colorado. After watching him play, NBC Sports analyst Pierre McGuire compared Terry to Milan Hejduk. Continue reading Denver Hockey Series Preview: Colorado College→
No. 4 Denver will host No. 9 Minnesota Duluth this weekend at Magness Arena in what will most likely be another close series
Last time Denver and Duluth met was during the first week of December in Minnesota and there wasn’t much room to skate on the ice. The Pioneers swept the Bulldogs but both games were decided by one goal. Tanner Jaillet’s performance was key to that series as it seemed star players were cancelled out and it was up to depth players to be the difference makers. The No. 4 Pioneers travel to Grand Forks North Dakota to take on the No. 11 Fighting Hawks in their second series of the season
After a sweep of the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks last weekend, it looks as though Denver is back to playing Pioneer hockey. Goaltender Tanner Jaillet put the team on his back and recorded two consecutive shutouts earning himself the NCAA’s second star of the week. Freshman Ian Mitchell scored a goal and four assists making him the NCHC’s player of the week. And Mr. Borgström made the highlight reel once again. The Pioneers play their first home series of 2018 this weekend when they host the University of Nebraska-Omaha
Whether you’re playing in the NCAA, in Juniors, or even the NHL, teams get a sense around this time of year if they are for real or not. The new year is a great motivator for teams that have struggled closing out the previous year to turn a new leaf, and for those who were successful to reflect on what gave them that success. After a couple unexpected ties with Colorado College last week, the Pioneers look to get back in the win column when they welcome Dartmouth College to Magness Arena. The two teams have only met five times in history with Denver’s record being 4-0-1 all-time. Their most recent game was in 2015 when the Pioneers traveled to Hanover and tied the Big Green only to lose in the shootout. Continue reading Denver Hockey series preview: Dartmouth→
The Battle for the Gold Pan should be less about history and more about progression for this year’s Pioneers
Winning an NCAA Championship can do a lot for a college hockey program. It can put them on the map, it can make their team a bigger threat, and it can give the team’s players reason to walk with their heads held high. But when you’re the University of Denver and you’re running out of fingers for championship rings, no championship is worth more than this year’s. With Thanksgiving in the rear-view mirror, let’s hope the Pioneers had plenty to eat because they’re going to need the energy this weekend when they take on the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. After taking back the No. 1 ranking from St. Cloud State with a sweep last weekend, the Pioneers have another tough test in No. 3 North Dakota
We’re just a week away from Thanksgiving and I think it’s safe to say a lot of us are thankful for College Hockey. It was a great weekend for the Pioneers last week who completed a sweep of the then No. 1 St. Cloud State Huskies. It was a tough battle but the Pioneers prevailed and have good momentum going into their series this weekend with the North Dakota Fighting Hawks.
