Denver Fades in Second Half to South Dakota State University, 86-79

Denver men’s basketball (8-10, 1-2) began their South Dakota road swing Thursday night against South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D. The Jackrabbits have historically been the best program in the Summit League. DU’s last win in Brookings against South Dakota State was in 2008 when Denver won 83-80, marking their only victory in 14 attempts during their modern Division I era. Make it 15-1 after Thursday night’s 87-79 defeat. Continue reading Denver Fades in Second Half to South Dakota State University, 86-79 →

DU Pushes St Thomas but Falls, 92-88

This was a measuring stick game. The Summit League only receives one NCAA Tournament auto bid. An early road game against the preseason conference favorite, St Thomas, was a good chance to evaluate Denver’s progress and prospects for the 2025-26 conference season. Denver (8-9, 1-1) did not play one of their most solid games, yet the Pioneers hung close to the Tommies on the road until the final seconds, 92-88. DU men’s basketball (8-8, 1-0) opened conference play on New Years Eve afternoon at Hamilton Gym. The Pioneers lead throughout the game and coasted to a double-digit victory, 87-74. Denver Finishes Strong but Falls to Tulsa, 90-85

Denver men’s basketball (7-8) traveled to Tulsa (12-1) on Monday afternoon to play the once-defeated Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. The non-conference finale was the final dress rehearsal before DU’s Summit League opener on New Year’s Eve. Tulsa pulled away in the final five minutes of the game but not before Denver threw a scare into the Golden Hurricanes, responding time and again, in a display of resilience. DU played one of its most complete games of the pre-season, despite going 6-23 from three-point range. Continue reading Denver Finishes Strong but Falls to Tulsa, 90-85 →

DU Snaps 6 Game Skid to Northern Colorado, Wins 86-79

What Does AI Think DU Men’s Basketball Must Do to Compete in the Summit League This Season?

Tuesday night, DU torched University of Colorado – Colorado Springs (UCCS), 129-93. Denver has two more road games remaining on their schedule later this month before starting conference play on December 31st against UMKC. Despite its numerous and well-documented problems with not only resource consumption but also general accuracy with some of the most basic commands, we were curious to know what Google AI thought, based on current statistics after 13 games, about what DU needs to do to compete for a Summit League conference championship this season. Not surprisingly, defense moves to the top of the list.

Here is what AI has to say about DU’s 2025-26  team: Continue reading What Does AI Think DU Men’s Basketball Must Do to Compete in the Summit League This Season? →

Cal State Fullerton Joins the Century Club, Downs DU 105-86

Denver men’s basketball (5-7) faced the Cal State Fullerton Titans (5-7) on Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Gym. The Titans were the third team this season to score more than 100 points against Denver in the 105-86 Pioneer loss. Denver actually outscored the Titans in the second half, 58-54, but the Pioneers were torched in the first half, 51-28. Continue reading Cal State Fullerton Joins the Century Club, Downs DU 105-86 →

Denver Sweeps D2 foes – Prepares for Non-Conference Finish

Denver men’s basketball (5-6) swept two D2 teams this week and faces Cal State Fullerton (D1) Saturday at Hamilton Gym at 2:00 pm MT. After earlier ‘buy-games’ against teams like Colorado State and #1 Arizona, these games against D2 teams serve two purposes. First, they provide a chance to run offensive and defensive sets and schemes with less resistance while breaking bad habits that may have been developed in prior games. Second, they build confidence as the team barrels toward Summit League play which begins at the end of this month. Continue reading Denver Sweeps D2 foes – Prepares for Non-Conference Finish →
