Gymnastics Remains at #10 After Beating Cyclones

Denver gymnastics put up a 197.275 against the Iowa State Cyclones on Friday, February 24. The Cyclones are at #39, so again, the Pioneers were supposed to win this one by a lot. It’s just our athletes versus the judges. The team remained ranked #10 in the nation and improved their National Qualifying Score (NQS) from 197.195 to 197.305. Gymnastics Posts Season High Team Score, But Deserved Higher

DU gymnastics was on fire Friday evening at the Air Force Academy! The team score was a season high of 197.65. However, if this meet had been in the SEC, I guarantee you that score would be a 197.9. These Colorado judges are hurting DU’s national ranking. DU is forced to compete better while traveling out of state than when they are at home (or in the Springs). Brown Pays Tribute to Pio Legends

On February 12, Magness Arena was treated to the return of Lynnzee Brown in the All Around for Pioneers gymnastics. It was her first time competing on the floor exercise since January 2022, when she suffered a seemingly career ending injury.  In 2022, she was in her fifth year at DU, having been granted an extra year of NCAA eligibility due to the pandemic. DU Gymnastics team looks great, but can’t catch #1 Oklahoma Sooners

The DU gymnastics team improved its season high team score by over two tenths of a point at their fourth meet of the season on Sunday afternoon in Magnus arena. (Can we call it that in honor of Chrona’s shutout Friday night?!) The gymnastics team score was 197.425. For comparison, the highest team score last year for DU was 197.6. Not there yet, but this DU gymnastics team is improving week over week. We even saw the return of graduate student, Lynnzee Brown, to the vault lineup, which has her back on three of four events after last year’s season ending achilles tendon injury. DU hit season high team scores on both bars (49.4) and floor (49.4).  But, even the Pioneers very best meet wouldn’t touch the Oklahoma Sooner’s whopping 198.425 team score. Oklahoma is just that good, which is why they are ranked #1.

Denver Gymnastics to face Oklahoma Sooners Sunday at Magness Arena

We’re already three weeks into the collegiate gymnastics season, and the Denver Pioneers are off to a great start. The team started the season off with a win at home on January 8th, followed by two second-place finishes on January 13th and 20th. Their fourth meet will be the best competition we’ll see in Magness in the regular season this year as the #1 Oklahoma Sooners travel to Denver for a meet this Sunday, January 29th.
