On 2/4/24, Denver gymnastics faced off against Towson at Magness Arena for a win 198.0 to 195.6.
Denver is joined by just five other teams in the NCAA who have hit 198 points this season! A score of 198 is an average score of 9.9 for every counted score on every event. What’s most surprising, is that of the six teams who have hit 198, only LSU is in the SEC. (The SEC judges are known to throw out 10.0s like candy at a parade.) This is only the second time in program history that DU has hit the astronomical 198 mark, the first being last March, also at home, also in a dual meet versus Towson. Week 4 is in the books for DU gymnastics. Denver has seen some promising improvements and some setbacks. Two of the most noteworthy accomplishments were senior Jessica Hutchinson’s career-high 39.725 All Around score to place first against Oklahoma, and Rylie Mundell’s return to the floor lineup and All Around, both in week 4 on 1/26. Denver gymnastics won in their 2024 home opener versus Arizona State on Sunday 196.9 to 196.375. DU suffered lots of little mistakes and a couple of falls. Plus a few key athletes are either injured or not fully recovered from injuries. Overall it didn’t look like Denver was ready for competition this week. There is a lot of room for improvement and DU will need to start clawing their way up to have a chance at nationals again this year. The 2024 gymnastics season has officially started! Sixteen teams traveled to Las Vegas last weekend for the “Mean Girls” Super 16 Gymnastics Championships. This is the second annual Super 16 season opener in Las Vegas and the first time DU was in attendance. It was a great way to start the season, competing on the podium at the Orleans Arena. Most of the top teams were there, and they looked ready for the season. The teams were divided into four sessions of four schools each. DU competed in the first session on January 5th, going head to head with Washington, Illinois, and San Jose State. The meet was live-streamed on YouTube @super16gym. DU Gymnastics hosted an open practice on Friday, welcoming fans to the practice gym, and showing off new routines and skills. The team is at the halfway mark of their preseason practices and is looking good! They have welcomed four freshmen this year who all look like they can factor into the team’s lineups. The five returning seniors are perhaps the strongest senior class the Pioneers have ever had. Continue reading DU Gymnastics Putting in the Work for 2024→
