Thursday, Denver volleyball (8-6, 1-1) opened with a 3-0 sweep of Pacific at Hamilton Gym as the Pioneers cinched their first ever conference win. Kayla Patel had 15 kills and Lily Van Hal had 20 assists. On Saturday afternoon, Denver volleyball lost to the St Mary’s Gaels 3-1. However, Denver held a late 19-14 edge in the final set but the Gaels came back in extra points, 28-26. St Mary’s had a decided size and talent edge but Denver was scrappy and libero Madison Winkler’s 18 digs kept the Pioneers in the hunt. Next up is a trip to San Diego on Saturday, October 3rd.

Denver men’s soccer (1-6-2, 0-0-1) traveled to the coast to play #19 San Diego. The Toreros, selected 2nd in the conference preseason poll, outplayed Denver but freshman goalie Alex Hohl stopped 16 shots, 6 on frame, for a 0-0 draw. Denver created 6 shots with no shots on-goal.  Denver has now been held scoreless in four matches this season. Next up is a tilt against Loyola Marymount at 1:00 pm MT on Saturday, October 3rd at Pioneer Field.

Women’s soccer (2-5-2, 1-0-0) capped the opening WCC weekend at Pioneer Field. After a scoreless first half, Reese Morgan got the Pioneers on the board (56 min.) for the lead. #25 St Mary’s countered three minutes later, 1-1. Denver’s Maeve Morgan score the unassisted game winner 15 minutes later (71 min.) for the win at Pioneer Field. Next up is a trip to Santa Clara on Saturday, October 3rd.
