Against Marist Friday night, DU (4-2, 0-0) broke open a close game, 6-5 at half, to gallop to an 18-5 rout. Against Quinnipiac Sunday, the Pioneers and Bobcats were tied after the first quarter, 3-3, but Denver outscored the visitors the net three periods to win 14-7.
Denver defeated Marist under the lights employing an explosive offense, out-scoring the Red Foxes 12-0 in the final two quarters. In the third quarter, Denver displayed offensive balance with 6 goals by five different players, one tally with a man up. Denver repeated that feat again in the fourth quarter with Mic Kelly the only multi-goal scorer. Marist could only generate four shots on goal in the second half as Denver dominated. Noah Manning, Mic Kelly and Judge Murphy all finished with 4 goals on the night.
The game against Quinnipiac on Sunday was a Chamber of Commerce Day in Denver. Under sunny skies and warm weather, DU handily defeated the Bobcats. After a tight 3-3 first quarter, Denver shut out the Bobcats in the second quarter and received goals from Mic Kelly, Casey Wilson and Chris Merageas. Denver entered the break leading 6-3. In the third quarter, DU scored 5 goals, by Cheyne Repp, Noah Manning, Judge Murphy, Mic Kelly and Chris Merageas to forge a commanding lead. Denver posted 3 more goals in the final quarter to seal the decisive victory, 14-7.
On the women’s side, Maryland snapped Denver women’s lacrosse (3-3, 0-0) three-game winning streak, 14-10, in College Park, Maryland. Lacrosse fans should plan on watching DU women’s lacrosse matchup against Michigan Wolverines at noon this Wednesday, March 5th at Peter Barton Stadium.
Next up for men’s lacrosse is a trip to New Haven to face Yale next Saturday.
