To answer my own question from last spring, no, Denver gymnastics will not fade into obscurity! They started off the 2026 season with two weeks of top finishes. Senior Cecilia Cooley beat the 2024 Olympic bronze medalist on floor (no…not that one, the Romanian)! Continue reading Gymnastics is Back!

DU Bowes-Up in the Third Period, Beats UND 3-2
This game was BIG following a six-game non-winning skid by DU men’s hockey (13-10-2, 9-5). All the recent issues that plagued DU men’s hockey evaporated in the third period at Ralph Engelstad Arena. After being pulled during the prior two games, goaltender Quentin Miller was outstanding the entire game and, especially, effective in the final period when it counted the most. With the score knotted 2-2 exiting the second period, the Pioneers James Reeder scored the critical game-winning power-play goal (8:41) in the third period. Unlike Friday night, Denver’s defense held strong, showing fight and resolve in the final minutes to secure the win. DU was tenacious and pesky during the third period and earned the critical road split. Continue reading DU Bowes-Up in the Third Period, Beats UND 3-2
North Dakota Blitzes Denver in Opener, 5-0
Denver men’s hockey (12-10-2, 8-5-0) visited The Ralph Friday night for a two-game set against the Fighting Hawks in Grand Forks. It was a recurring theme for the Pioneers as they fell behind early, struggled on the powerplay and had uncharacteristic breakdowns on both ends of the ice in a 5-0 rout. Carson Johnson Triggers Hoops Win Against ORU, 98-87
Denver men’s basketball (9-11, 2-3) returned home to the hardwood, trying to snap a three-game conference losing streak. ORU came to Denver riding a 29-game regular-season road losing streak – ouch! (The NCAA record goes to the Towson Tigers at 41.) After the smoke cleared, make that 30 for ORU and a 98-87 Denver win. Continue reading Carson Johnson Triggers Hoops Win Against ORU, 98-87

WMU Dominates DU in Home Sweep, 6-2
DU men’s hockey, reeling after the holiday break, looked to restablish their power play and reignite their confidence Saturday night. Neither happened as another shakey performance resulted in a decisive conference home loss. Denver looked like a cinch for an NCAA Tournament host berth in Loveland with mostly home games and a solid conference record but now, Denver is left fighting for their playoff lives. Depleted South Dakota Coyotes Deliver Double-Digit Loss to DU, 82-72
DU men’s basketball (8-11, 1-3) travelled to Vermillion, S.D. and faced a depleted South Dakota Coyotes squad Saturday afternoon. The Coyotes had seven players out with injuries. The big question: Could the Pioneers build and hold the lead in the final 5 to 7 minutes of a game against a reeling team? Well, rinse-and-repeat as Denver fizzled in the final 8 minutes, 82-72, missing a chance to defeat the vulnerable Coyotes. Denver also wasted a career game from Gabe Oldham, who delivered 24 points and 13 rebounds. Continue reading Depleted South Dakota Coyotes Deliver Double-Digit Loss to DU, 82-72
Power Play Woes Bite Denver in loss to Western Michigan, 4-1
DU men’s hockey (12-8-2, 8-3-0) fell behind the Broncos early when Liam Valente scored for WMU one minute into the game, 1- 0. The score held throughout the period and Denver squandered two power play opportunities – a harbinger of things to come. Continue reading Power Play Woes Bite Denver in loss to Western Michigan, 4-1
Denver Fades in Second Half to South Dakota State University, 86-79
Denver men’s basketball (8-10, 1-2) began their South Dakota road swing Thursday night against South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D. The Jackrabbits have historically been the best program in the Summit League. DU’s last win in Brookings against South Dakota State was in 2008 when Denver won 83-80, marking their only victory in 14 attempts during their modern Division I era. Make it 15-1 after Thursday night’s 87-79 defeat. Continue reading Denver Fades in Second Half to South Dakota State University, 86-79
