Denver Draws with Omaha, 3-3, & Lose Conference Point in Shootout

It was not a great game for Denver on both the offensive and defensive ends. DU had numerous chances to beat Omaha goaltender Simon Latkoczy, 63 shots in regulation, but only solved the netminder three times in sixty-five minutes and three times in 16 shootout opportunities. DU gave up a powerplay goal, a back door stuff and an odd-man rush, giving the Mavs life in different ways. Omaha deserved the point and DU deserved what they got on this rather glum night, overshadowed by the loss of Daniel L. Ritchie.  The highlight of the night was a touching tribute to Ritchie by Athletic Director Josh Berlo and a photo montage following the National Anthem. Dan Ritchie’s Impact on DU Athletics

Chancellor Emeritus Dan Ritchie was a quiet titan – gentle, humble and kind on the outside but determined, steely and focused in word and deed. His civic contributions are too numerous to mention as are his support for other key areas of the University of Denver. We would like to recognize his impact on DU sports and the broader community. Pioneers Continue to Struggle in NCHC Play, Fall to UMD in Game One

The #5 Denver Pioneers’ (17-6-0, 6-5-0 NCHC) record indicates that they are among the country’s elite, solidly in the top 10 in the Pairwise  Rankings (PWR), and a lock to make the NCAA Tournament. But it’s impossible to ignore the fact that their record is propped up by a strong 11-1-0 nonconference record that came against just three teams in the top 20 of the PWR. In short, they’re struggling when it comes time to play NCHC teams. And those struggles continued tonight in Duluth as they fell 4-3 to a Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (10-12-1, 6-7-0 NCHC) that has struggled to find consistency this season. NCAA Provides an Early Model of Revenue Sharing & the Possible Impact on DU

The NCAA provided a look into the future of revenue-sharing payouts to student-athletes by looking at the Power-Four (Big 10, Big XII, SEC, & ACC) conferences House v. NCAA legal settlement and estimating the revenue sharing to student-athletes using 2025 figures by conference, by sport. These estimates do not include The Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR)  recent guidance that there must be an equitable distribution of NIL funds between men’s and women’s sports. It has not been determined if the same NIL principle will apply to revenue-sharing. Continue reading NCAA Provides an Early Model of Revenue Sharing & the Possible Impact on DU

Pioneers Cruise to 16th Straight Victory Over Miami with 6-2 Effort

The last time Denver lost to Miami, the COVID-19 pandemic was ravaging the planet and the NCHC was conducting its “Pod” in Omaha wherein all eight teams played their first 10 games of the season, isolated from the outside world. Since that miserable December 2020, the Pioneers have reeled off 16-straight* wins over the RedHawks. The latest effort was a 6-2 clinic at Magness Arena that saw #6 Denver (17-5-0, 6-4-0 NCHC) dominate in all phases and send Miami (3-15-2, 0-10-0 NCHC) home with a loss. The win clinched the series sweep for the Pioneers and improved their record to 3-1 since the holiday break. Continue reading Pioneers Cruise to 16th Straight Victory Over Miami with 6-2 Effort
