Team USA played World Junior Championships host Sweden Friday in the Gold Medal game in Gothenburg. It was a hard-fought, chippy game that featured end-to-end hockey but in the end, a fast and deep Team USA secured their sixth World Junior Championship with an overpowering third-period performance, en route to a 6-2 championship-game victory. The #1 seeded USA faced Finland today in the World Junior Championships semifinal round in Gothenburg, Sweden. Undefeated USA Demolishes Slovakia 10-2 as Carle Leads Team to Top Group B Seed
DU’s Zeev Buium scored to give the US to a 2-1 lead at 10:13 of the first period, threading through Slovak defenders before placing a shot through the goaltender’s five-hole. Buium’s tally gave the USA a lead they would never relinquish as they went on to dominate Slovakia 10-2 in a showdown of the top two teams from Group B. USA drops Czechs in Shootout to Set Up Group B Decider Sunday
The USA and Czechia played end-to-end hockey, tied 3-3, into the third period. Each team held leads which were quickly countered in a hard-fought game. The Americans owned the final 10 minutes of regulation but could not finish off the Czechs. The game went to 5 minutes of three-on-three. Zeev Buium Finds Paydirt as USA Routs Switzerland, 11-3
Team USA used five first-period goals to coast to an 11-3 win over Switzerland at the World Junior Championships. University of Minnesota forward Jimmy Snuggerud scored three of team USA’s goals in the first period and DU’s Zeev Buium capped the five-goal barrage at 18:29. In two years, the National Collegiate Conference (NCHC) will be moving away from a neutral site Frozen Faceoff to an all-campus conference tournament format. Denver head coach David Carle has been a vocal proponent using home rinks for NCAA Tournament regionals in the past because he believes student-athletes want to play in front of larger crowds instead of empty neutral sites. Denver Defenseman Zeev Buium Named to USA WJC Roster
Denver Hockey’s freshman defenseman and rising star Zeev Buium has been named to the Team USA roster for the 2024 World Junior Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden by head coach David Carle. Buium’s hockey career has been on a meteoric rise since the beginning of the season in October. Despite his age – Buium is the second-youngest player in Division-I college hockey this season, having just celebrated his 18th birthday last Thursday – he is tied for 3rd nationally with 25 points (5G-20A) through 18 games.
