We have noted DU’s low fan attendance at a number of sports events this year. However, on an absolutely horrible day of wind, sleet, rain and cold – the Denver crowd turned out in force at Peter Barton Stadium for the Denver vs. Marquette lacrosse contest today.

Six goal third leads Pioneers to Big East Title on Senior Day
Thanks to an important six-goal third quarter during which the No. 1 University of Denver Pioneers (12-1, 5-0 Big East) held the No. 19 Marquette University Golden Eagles (9-4, 4-1 Big East) scoreless, DU won their third straight Big East regular season championship. Denver Destroys Providence, 17-7.

The #2 ranked Denver Pioneer men’s lacrosse team set a school record with 13 different scorers, en-route to a lopsided 17-7 Big East victory over Providence College. The Pios’ romp further dampened the Friars’ new Anderson Stadium Dedication Day in rainy Providence, R.I. on April 23. The Denver win over PC, when coupled with top-ranked Notre Dame’s 17-15 April 23 loss to North Carolina, means that DU should move up to a #1 national ranking on Monday, April 25 when the newest polls are released. Denver tops St. John’s 17-10 in another snowy affair

For the second straight week, the No. 3 Unversity of Denver Pioneers lacrosse team played in a ‘winter wonderland’ and for the second straight week, they prevailed. Last weekend, against the Villanova Wildcats the Pioneers eked out a late 12-11 victory. This weekend, DU topped the St. John’s Red Storm 17-10, albeit with less on-field accumulation. Denver holds off upstart Villanova in snowy thriller
On a cold day in Villanova, Pennsylvania, the No. 4 University of Denver Pioneers topped the No. 18 Villanova University Wildcats 12-11 with heavy snow falling throughout the game. Denver Can’t Overcome Sloppy Play, Loses to Penn State

For the first time since losing to Ohio State last year, a span of 20 games, the No. 1 University of Denver Pioneers lost a lacrosse game. This time, the Pioneers were dispatched at the hands of the unranked, upstart Penn State Nittany Lions by a score of 15-10 at the Patriot Cup in Dallas, Texas. DU Lax Powers Past Ohio State in Second Half, 15-6
Ten months ago, Ohio State came to Denver and surprised the Pioneers with a 5-0 first quarter scoring run at the NCAA quarterfinals. DU responded with a 5-0 run of their own and went on to win the game and advance, 15-13, to the Final Four and become eventual national champions.
Ohio State rolled into Denver Saturday afternoon with a chance to exact revenge. They hung close the first half, again, as both teams played stifling defense but DU’s offense got untracked in the second half. DU coasted to the 15-6 victory at Peter Barton Stadium.
