Parity:
noun | par·i·ty | \per-ə-tē\
1. the quality or state of being equal or equivalent
2. 2016 NCAA Lacrosse

The University of Denver’s first round exit of the NCAA Tournament at the hands of the Towson Tigers was shocking and stung a lot of fans of the Crimson & Gold. But the Pioneers were not the only victims of the incredible degree of parity in the sport. Over the course of the last few weeks of the season, three other top teams, Brown, Yale, and Notre Dame were upset. Brown lost to Harvard in the Ivy League Tournament semifinal while Yale lost to Navy and Notre Dame lost to eventual national champion North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament. An all-time great hockey name is about to don the crimson and gold. Yesterday, University of Vermont goaltender Packy Munson announced via Twitter that he is going to transfer to the University of Denver, effective immediately. Due to NCAA eligibility rules, Munson will have to sit out the 2016-17 season, current DU goaltender Evan Cowley’s senior year, before resuming eligibility in the 2017-18 season.  Continue reading Vermont goaltender Packy Munson to transfer to Denver

No Regrets After Historic Year

A cold, steady drizzle descended on the city of Denver following DU’s 10-9 loss to Towson. Much like the DU hockey team in Tampa, a two-goal deficit was just too much to overcome. The sticks that were flying into the air were not ours – again. The gloom engulfed Pioneer fans and the weather followed.

But really, is there anything to be feel bad about? Continue reading No Regrets After Historic Year

The University of Denver Pioneers lacrosse team will not defend their 2015 National Title. The 2016 DU lacrosse team is done and the 2016 Towson Tigers will move on to face Loyola in the quarterfinal round in Columbus, Ohio. In the end, the University of Denver Pioneers’ loss to the Marquette University Golden Eagles in the BIG EAST Championship didn’t affect their seeding in the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament. Even if the Pioneers had won the BIG EAST Tournament, it is unlikely that they would have been the No. 1 overall seed ahead of the Maryland Terrapins. Powered by a seven-goal second half, the No. 19 Marquette University Golden Eagles topped the top-ranked University of Denver Pioneers for the first time in the short, 4-year history of Marquette lacrosse. The Eagles held Denver’s star attackman Connor Cannizzaro without a goal for the first time in almost 40 games and made life difficult for DU’s star FOGO by winning 12-of-23 at the X.
