With the No. 7 University of Denver’s NCAA Tournament first-round game with No. 12 Boston University later today, we thought that doing a Q&A with a BU blogger would be a great way to gain insight into BU’s program and how they might match up with DU.

Thanks to the willingness of Matt Pereira with BayState (Road) Sports to do this feature, we were able to get some key questions answered. They did the same with us and here is their Q&A with me. Here’s the conversation: Continue reading Denver-BU Q&A Preview with BayState (Road) Sports

Part 2: Putting Denver Hoops on the Map

He is young, handsome, smart, a Denver native, and an alum. Rodney Billups is starting his run as head coach with a hand full of aces – so he can push the boundaries.

When it comes to men’s basketball, what does the University of Denver have? A middling basketball program in a middling conference (Summit League) at an excellent university and very good facilities in an extraordinary city. Some contend that there is a low level of interest in college basketball in Denver while others argue that there is pent-up demand for a strong college basketball program. DU has no regular history of excellence in basketball. If you follow online student forums, DU is seen as an elite snobby university by many urban students and community members who see DU as aspiring to be ‘ivy league’,  a rich kid school,  and stocked by white suburban kids.   Continue reading Part 2: Putting Denver Hoops on the Map

DU Hockey Mailbag: The Real March Madness

Ain’t playoff hockey great? We’ve had two weeks of it already and there is more coming this weekend in Albany, NY; Worcester, MA; Cincinnati, OH; and St. Paul, MN. Of course, the regional the matters most to us here at LetsGoDU is the West region in St. Paul where the No. 7 University of Denver Pioneers will face the No. 12 Boston University Terriers on Saturday. The winner of that game will play the winner of the St. Cloud vs Ferris State matchup. Continue reading DU Hockey Mailbag: The Real March Madness

When watching the first weekend of March Madness, one couldn’t help but see other basketball programs that might offer the University of Denver men’s basketball program some hope. Here are three teams that caught my interest and how their performances may provide DU with a roadmap for future success. Continue reading What DU Can Learn from Lumberjacks, Crusaders, & Bulldogs

Notre Dame Moves Again – What does it mean for DU?

Notre Dame is departing Hockey East for the Big 10. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have submitted paperwork to Hockey East advising them of their intention to leave the conference. The only thorny outstanding issue was the Notre Dame TV network but that has likely been resolved. College Hockey News’ article further speculates that this move opens the door for  Arizona State to move to the Big 10 as well. The only issue to be resolved is the split of PAC 12 – Big 10 TV money. Coming into the NCHC Frozen Faceoff weekend, it was already determined that the No. 7 University of Denver Pioneers had clinched a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Denver and North Dakota Tie in Meaningless Consolation Game

In an altogether meaningless NCHC third-place game for NCAA Tournament purposes, the No. 6 University of Denver Pioneers and the No. 1 University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks skated to a 1-1 tie at the Target Center. Thanks to the tie, Denver will likely stay at #6 in the PairWise Rankings while North Dakota will finish no worse than #3. Continue reading Denver and North Dakota Tie in Meaningless Consolation Game
