In a stunning new report, a geotechnical firm in Lincoln, Nebraska, Ferris Engineering Partners, has identified serious problems with the support piers for the new University of Nebraska-Omaha Baxter Arena.

For the second straight day, the No. 2 University of Denver Pioneers took on a team from the northeast and won by double digits. This time, the Pioneers’ victim was the unranked Dartmouth College Big Green. Paced by three goals and three assists from midfielder Tyler Pace and two goals and three assists from attackman Connor Cannizzaro, the Pioneers easily dispatched the Big Green. Following a 12-18 season in 2014-15, the Pioneers were loaded with freshmen (a stunning nine total on the game & practice rosters) and an uncertain future heading into this season. There was every reason to believe the Pioneers were headed for consecutive losing seasons – but they defied the odds with senior leadership, a solid incoming freshmen class, the development of existing players, liberal substitutions and a deep bench. With their sweep against the Western Michigan Broncos, the Denver Pioneers earned their seventh-consecutive win of the season to match the longest winning-streak of the decade that occurred back in November and December of 2010. Now (19-8-5, 15-5-2-0 NCHC) the Pioneers are peaking at the right time. The team has identified their rhythm and has found what works to generate much-needed success at such a crucial point in the year according to Head Coach Jim Montgomery. Denver looks to advance from 3rd place in the NCHC rankings and ultimately, secure an ideal seed for the NCAA tournament. It was only appropriate Saturday afternoon that DU seniors Marcus Byrd, Nate Engesser, and Bryant Rucker played key roles in a decisive Pioneer (15-14) victory 70-59 at Magness Arena over North Dakota State University (18-12).
The Pioneers started slowly, trailing 0-5, to start the game but quickly played the Bison even-up through the first half. The teams went to intermission tied at 29 but the Pioneers depth took its toll on the visiting Bison in the second half. A lively crowd, supporting the graduating seniors, combined with spillover from lax, created a great afternoon for a contest that eventually guaranteed a winning regular season for DU. On a sunny, 65 degree Saturday afternoon, the No. 2 University of Denver Pioneers took on the unranked Sacred Heart University Pioneers and won convincingly, 18-7. Denver followed their exciting 14-12 victory over the Duke Blue Devils last week with an impressive, if a bit erratic, offensive showing against their Pioneers counterparts from Fairfield, Connecticut. LetsGoDU predicted 11 wins for the 2015-16 DU men’s hoops (14-14) squad based on their schedule, roster turnover, inexperience, and a host of unknowns regarding this year’s squad.

Whew…what an incredible couple of weeks. DU hockey swept North Dakota two weeks ago and then swept the Kittens including a 4-1 victory at Coors Field at the Battle on Blake. Puck Swami challenged DU to put on Big Events in his article Think Big, Denver . So we have put together the LetsGoDU Big Event Super Survey. In the survey, we provide a Big Event concept and venue. Of course, we know that it takes years to work out schedules and plan such events, but we wanted to paint a picture of what it would take to create such an event that would draw local and regional interest.
