The NCHC announced today that Danton Heinen, Dylan Gambrell, and Will Butcher received conference player of the week honors. Heinen and Gambrell were named offensive player and rookie of the week, respectively, for the second week in a row while Butcher was named defenseman of the week.
Heinen and Gambrell helped keep the Pacific Rim Line’s hot this week. Heinen tallied 4 points with a goal and an assist in both games against Colorado College. Gambrell, the center of Denver’s top line, notched another 5 points for the Pacific Rim Line in the two games with two goals and three assists.
Not to be outdone by the high flying top line, Butcher tallied four points on four assists over the weekend while anchoring a penalty kill unit that killed 4 of 5 penalties all weekend. Both of his assists in the Battle on Blake came on the power play to help get that under-performing unit on the scoreboard twice in 15 seconds.
This is the third time this year that Heinen was named Offensive Player of the Week, fourth time that Gambrell was named Rookie of the Week, and the fourth time that Butcher was named Defenseman of the Week.
These honors come on the heels of the second series sweep and 10th win in 12 games for the Pioneers. Denver travels to Kalamazoo, Michigan this weekend to take on the Western Michigan Broncos for the penultimate series of the 2015-16 regular season.
With 4 regular season games left, the Pioneers are 3 victories away from extending their streak of 20+ win seasons to 15. Be sure to note that all postseason games count toward the overall record.
