DU hoops went to North Carolina, the state nicknamed ‘first in flight‘, to add height to the Pioneers squad. According to Verbal Commits, Denver extended offers to two big men for 2018 when the team is expected to have a treasure trove of five available scholarships. The first offer went to 6’8″ power forward Jalen Gamble from High Point, North Carolina while the second went to Jaylan Gainey a 6’9″ power forward from Greensboro, North Carolina. Both are 2-star recruits. The only other scholarship offer extended to either player was to Gainey from Maryland East-Shore.
This continues the trend under the Rodney Billups and his staff to aggressively pursue recruits and signal DU’s interest early. Denver is also continuing to demonstrate that they are not necessarily tethered to a specific part of the country or program – such as the local Chauncey Billups Elite Basketball Academy.
Other offers for 2018 include local shooting guard 6’4″ Daylen Kountz from Denver’s George Washington High School and Kansas City area players 6’2″ guard Mario Goodrich and 6’9″ Yor Anei. Kountz is drawing the most attention with offers from Rutgers, Wyoming, and Portland State. All are rated 2-stars.
