Despite a disappointing weekend for DU’s hockey team which lost to both Ohio State and Boston College in the Ice Breaker Tournament, this weekend was, overall a smashing success for Denver athletics. Volleyball and both men’s and women’s soccer came away with big victories over the past few days.
Volleyball Sweeps
The favored Denver Women’s volleyball team swept two home matches against Western Illinois and South Dakota State. These two opponents were a combined 6-34 and Denver, the Summit League favorites, swept both 3-0 and moved to 12-5, 4-1 Summit.
DU’s next two matches will be critical with a road trip to Tulsa on Tuesday against Oral Roberts University (picked 4th-Summit) and a homecoming return to Hamilton Gym for a showdown against North Dakota State (picked 3rd-Summit) on Friday, October 14th at 7:00 PM.
Women’s Soccer Wins 3rd in a Row
Women’s soccer moved to 3-0 in the Summit league conference with a 1-0 win against a weak South Dakota Squad (2-12-1). Denver moved to 6-7-0, 3-0-0 Summit)
On Friday, Denver travels to Fargo, ND in a 6:00 MT match vs. North Dakota State (picked 1st – Summit).
Men’s Soccer Passes IUPUI
On Friday, Denver slipped past IUPUI (1-10) 1-0, despite out-shooting the Jags an over-whelming 18-4.
The men have a big match against #9 Butler (8-2-1) on Monday on the road at the Butler Bowl at 6:00 PM MT.
