Clutch Volleyball Win Secures Summit League Title

Sunday afternoon, Denver volleyball (20-7 overall, 13-3 Summit League) traveled to North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota with the regular season title on the line. After falling to South Dakota (13-3) in Vermillion, South Dakota on Friday night (25-18, 24-26, 25-23, 21-25 and 15-13) , the Pioneers had to win Sunday to secure a share of the regular season title.

Denver dropped the first set 23-25 but won the next two – 25-16, 25-20. NDSU refused to give-in and won the fourth set 21-25 to take it to a fifth and deciding set.  Denver took the finale 15-9 to take the match and secure a share of the regular season Summit League title.

Kayla Principato led all players with a 21 kills and was credited with a match-high 24.5 points. DU’s libero, Cassidy Rooke, led all players with 24 digs.

Denver owned the season head-to-head series versus South Dakota (3-0 W, 2-3 L) five games to three. So, the Pioneers will be the #1 seed in this week’s Summit League Tournament.

This marks the third season in a row with 20 wins or more for Pioneer volleyball.

The Summit League Conference Championships will be held at DU’s Hamilton Gym – November 18th (quarterfinals), 19th (semifinals), and 20th (finals). A Tournament win will result in an automatic return to the NCAA tournament for the Pios.
