Last night, the University of Denver Pioneers opened their season with a 4-1 victory over in-state rival Air Force. It was an important victory, not only for David Carle in his regular season head coaching debut but for a young Pioneers team with a steep hill to climb in the first half of the season. Air Force returned much of the team that upset St. Cloud State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago and Denver went to Colorado Springs and clipped the Falcons’ wings. The Pioneers made a statement in their opener and will certainly be looking to keep the momentum rolling tonight against Alabama-Huntsville at Magness Arena for Homecoming and their home opener.
