Photo: Defiant North Dakota Miss America, Cara Mund, claims she can get back into ‘pageant shape’ whenever she wants
She’s a big college hockey fan and rooting for North Dakota in next weekends playoffs (even though she went to NDSU) – but most people know her as a former Miss America.
In 2017, Mund won the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. No contestant from the state of North Dakota had ever won the title and worn the prized tiara.

Judges liked Mund’s blunt sense of humor and unorthodox persona. For the talent competition, the unconventional contestant dead lifted 480 pounds and performed a 630 pound squat. During the bathing suit portion of the event, she modeled a homemade bikini made of Bass Pro Shop plastic bags. Once she advanced to the Q&A portion of the contest, she was asked about the number one item on her “bucket list” – Mund said, “KFC!”. At that time, the audience was disarmed by the glib response.
But times have changed for the Bismarck beauty.
When she heard this past weekend that the Omaha hockey team had to sleep in the Ralph Engelstad Arena during a snow storm, she said, “If I’d have known, I would have gone over there and turned those Mavericks into bulls.”
And her analysis of next weekend’s match-up at Magness Arena? Mund Tweeted, “Unlike the Pioneers, I can score at will”.
According to the Bismark Daily Mirror, after winning the crown she returned to her hometown of Bismark, North Dakota where she is a driver for Jenson Trucking LLC. She has been spotted playing pool at Holiday Inn Bismark, attending MMA fights at Prairie Nights Casino and walleye fishing on Long Lake. As for personal appearances which have dried up, Mund said, “Give me three weeks”.
