Heart Attack Pios: Ryan Barrow’s last-minute goal lifts Denver to road sweep

Denver is still undefeated thanks to Ryan Barrow’s goal with 20 seconds left that gave the Pioneers a 4-3 victory over the Lake Superior State Lakers in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. The Pioneers and Lakers were tied at 1 after the first period but two second period goals from Bobby Brink and Hank Crone. The Lakers battled back in the third to tie it back up at 3 with just five minutes left. But on this night, it was Barrow who played hero. This  is the second time in four games that Denver has received a late third period goal to give them the victory. Cole Guttman was the third period hero in game one against Alaska Fairbanks.

We will have more in our weekend recap tomorrow but in the meantime, what are your thoughts on the soon-to-be top-ranked Pioneers earning their second straight road sweep to open the season?

  1. Love the 4-0-0, the second road sweep, the last-minute heroics and the probable #1 ranking that DU will have next week.

Don’t love the lost leads, the falling behind, the mediocre opponents, and the so-so power play.

All in all, a good start to the season. But If DU wants to sweep BC, they’ve got some work to do in practice this week.

    Go Pios!

  2. We did what we had to do. 9,000 mile road road trip. No loses to a team who might end up with a low PW ranking. (Think ND-Canisius) last season.
