Denver (1-0) raced out to a 12-6 lead at the break versus the Stanford Cardinal and held strong the second half to close-out their home opener at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium Saturday afternoon.
In the second half, Denver’s advantage grew to 8 goals but Stanford responded with a 4-goal run to close the gap. Denver settled down in the final minutes to halt the Cardinal run and secure the win.
Junior Quintin Hoch-Bullen led the Pioneers with 5 goals. DU goalie Carson Greg made 14 saves in the win. Attacker Hoch-Bullen, an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American selection, is seen as a key cog on this season’s squad and came up big against the Cardinal. Denver was selected by Big East coaches as the conference favorite this season.
