Men’s Hoops Schedule Beginning to Come into Focus

While DU has already announced its Summit League basketball schedule, the non-conference schedule has been somewhat of a mystery. By combing through various websites and front range team websites, we can see the non-conference schedule emerge.

University of Denver men’s hoops will begin with two home games against D2 CSU Pueblo (11/25) and Regis University (11/28).  The schedule ramps up in December with games against Wyoming (12/9 – road), University of Northern Colorado (12/16) and Colorado State (Date TBD). Denver is also slated to play Western Athletic (WAC) opponents Grand Canyon and Dixie State (12/12 – home). Denver hosts a two-team set with Texas State (12/19-home) and Northern Arizona (12/22 – home) at Magness Arena. Grand Canyon ends the nonconference schedule on 12/29.

The schedule does not include games against front range teams Air Force or CU but clearly focuses on regional games during the COVID-19 pandemic. DU may have other games scheduled but there is no other information available at this time.

REVISED: This is Denver’s final preseason schedule:

As it stands with that current list, Denver has scheduled 10 nonconference games along with 16 conference games. Last season the Pioneers played 13 non-conference games and 30 games total. Due to COVID-19, the Division 1 NCAA Council agreed that this season teams will meet sport sponsorship requirements and be considered for NCAA championship selection if they play at least 13 games, which represents a 50 percent reduction of the current minimum. For NCAA championship consideration, all 13 games must be against another Division I opponent.  The Division I Men’s Basketball and Division I Women’s Basketball committees also recommended teams play a minimum of four non-conference games.

The NCAA basketball season will start 15 days later than originally scheduled, November 25th.
