A night after the #11 Denver Pioneers (11-5-0. 5-3-0, 15 pts) dominated the #5 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (11-6-1, 4-3-1, 14 pts) in a 5-0 rout for their seventh-straight victory, the Bulldogs came out and returned the favor at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minnesota. UMD scored three first-period goals against a Pioneers team that looked like they didn’t quite know what hit them and it ended up being enough to keep Denver’s NCAA-best offense out of the game as the Bulldogs weathered a second-period storm from DU and won 6-2. Denver, of course, was seeking a huge road sweep tonight but, in the big picture, a road split against a team like Minnesota Duluth is still a good result.
We will have further detailed analysis in our hockey road trip weekend recap tomorrow morning.
